"Remoinho" is a meeting, convergence, and transformation in various arts that express life, bringing in this movement the presence of bodies that inhabit specific territories and their senses in everyday experimentation.
Traversing the territory through the mills that have remained—sometimes upright, sometimes fallen—endless possibilities for sound exploration emerge. From the swiftly flowing river, the sluggish millwheel still moving to grind the grain, to the life that still exists beyond its initial function—what sounds are these that still give life to what is no longer activated for what it was programmed? What do we feel when we go to these places of such stillness, with all our internal noise? The mills that we have explored and honored in the actions of Remoinho are places of unique beauty and tremendous isolation. Samuel proposes a symbolic play between sound and silence where the initial function, once forgotten, acquires new behaviors and leads us to explore the diverse manifestations of grains, sieves, screens, and millstones, which cascade with a particular rhythm.
Samuel Martins Coelho proposes a sound immersion in these places of oblivion, abandonment, and spontaneity, where brambles have taken over the territory, filling it with new meanings. The performance will be presented at Casa da Memória and, at the end of the project, near the Basilica of São Torcato, for the closing of Remoinho, in a privileged area of an existence intense with mills.
Free admission, subject to available capacity.
